Dec 20, 'Tis the Season to Buy a Business

The end of the year is a great time to continue or start your quest to buy a good business. I know you may say that "it's holiday season, we don't have any money". Well, unless you regularly spend $10k+ on gifts and such, your holidays should not have an impact on the $25k-250k you should be ready to put down on a business.

If that's not the case, you should probably forget about buying a business all together.

The end and beginning of a year is a great time to keep or start looking for a business. This is the time of year that many sellers are truly ready to part with their business to retire or move on to other ventures. They are in the best position listen to a reasonable offer and I recommend taking advantage of that emotional state.

So... browse around the business-buying-help.com site for pertinent information to get you ready to buy a good business for yourself.

Happy Buying!

Jun 29, What Makes a Good Buyer to the Eyes of a Seller and a Broker?

When I broker a business sale, I get inundated with buyers. Some of them come at me hard and fast but give little information. Not a good idea. The key to getting a seller or broker's attention is to be prepared and give them information to prove it.

The worst thing you can do is be demanding and come off as a "tire kicker". You won't get anywhere with that attitude.

Immediately you will come off as the usual "90" type of business buyer. The one that talks a lot but doesn't have the desire to buy a business or the money to be taken seriously.

Being a prepared buyer is very important. You need to be mentally prepared to pull the trigger. You need to have an industry and location focus. You need to have the knowledge to know a good deal when you see one.

And you need to have the money to pay for it or at least have prepped yourself to know how you are going to finance it. That doesn't mean saying "I plan on going to a bank after I find the right place". That means you already have a price range in mind where you can put down a reasonable amount and already have a way to finance the rest, even if that means seller financing.

Now you are ready to actually look and know what you can go after. Sellers and brokers will be ready to work with you. And your hunt to buy process will be faster and more successful.
